4. Protein structure, folding and dynamics
Understanding the mechanisms of catalysed and non-catalysed protein folding is one of the established research interests in Halle. The „Mitteldeutsches Zentrum für Struktur und Dynamik von Proteinen“ supports this research focus: Considering conformational states and structural intermediates occuring during protein folding, protein structures are described on the atomic level. The method spectrum comprises high resolution nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, single molecule spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography. The center is supported by a long standing expertise in the field of large scale production of recombinant proteins. This is the basis for the transfer of basic research in protein biotechnology into the industrial practice. The complexity of biological systems poses interesting challenges the structural biology.
